Balloon valvuloplasty is a therapy, where a balloon is used to stretch the valve and to break up the scars present in the valve. This therapy replaces the surgical procedure of opening the heart.

During this process the patient first undergoes catheterization where a cather is injected through the blood vessel. Another small cather which has a small balloon in its tip is also injected along the main cather.

The balloon contains a specific dye which helps the physician to see the whole procedure taking place inside. The balloon on reaching the valve will be inflated so that the valve gets opened.
