Cardiac Catheterization

Cardiac catheterization is a procedure to diagnose and treat heart disease. In this process, a long flexible and thin tube called cather is injected into the blood vessel of the patient either through arm or thigh or through groin (upper neck). This cather gives a clear picture to the physician regarding the defect.

In this procedure the physician applies a specific dye in the cather which through the blood stream reaches the heart quickly. This dye helps the physician to study the coronary arteries of the patient through an x-ray. This test is named as angiography.

Balloon Valvuloplasty

Balloon valvuloplasty is a therapy, where a balloon is used to stretch the valve and to break up the scars present in the valve. This therapy replaces the surgical procedure of opening the heart.

During this process the patient first undergoes catheterization where a cather is injected through the blood vessel. Another small cather which has a small balloon in its tip is also injected along the main cather.

The balloon contains a specific dye which helps the physician to see the whole procedure taking place inside. The balloon on reaching the valve will be inflated so that the valve gets opened. This inflation process continues until the block gets completely removed. Our doctor receives all information through an x-ray.
